Hello you, happy new year. It’s going well isn’t it? Where are we now? Day 5? It’s been an amazing year so far. It’s been amazing because I haven’t came up with any new years resolutions and I have to tell you, it’s such a relief. In fact I’ve decided I’m going to continue the bad habits I picked up last year and continue into 2011.

I have done resolutions in the past. Impossible goals, such as give up drink and hang out with the Dalai Lama. I start off with great intention, almost inspired by my own incredible commitment and drive but by February it all ends in crushing disappointment and shattered self-esteem. And then I hit the drink harder and ignore texts from the Dali Lama because I’m too ashamed of myself.

'Anyone fancy going down the Queens Head?

So this year is going to be different. I’m going to set ‘small achievable goals.’ The list is vast but wholly possible. Clean teeth, put the bins out, try broccoli and get on with Mondays. Stuff like that. Nothing too taxing; and when it comes to the end of the year, I can look back and say, ‘what a year, well done Guy, you were great.’

So here’s to setting the standards low and not being too bothered if you don’t reach them.

Good luck, it’s a jungle out there.
